About the Artist

Elena paints in watercolor with joy and excitement.

She grew up in Ukraine and Russia where art and music were a big part of her childhood. She moved to US with her husband when she was 25.

She turned to art as a therapy while recovering from surgery for torn ACL after some serious skiing on Whistler slopes in 2009. Painting took her to a world of beauty and fantasy and helped her block pain she was battling at the time. Her paintings were accepted in National Shows and won awards. Since then Elena paints obsessively full time. Color, light, and dynamic nature of watercolor medium are her inspiration. The beauty of nature and its elements are finding its way into her abstracted landscape, floral paintings, or portraits. She paints with transparent watercolor directly mixing watercolors on paper and letting it run. She starts a painting with an idea in mind and work towards bringing it out. Often a painting would take on a different direction and she’s excited to explore new ideas presented by the medium. Her goal is to evoke a feeling of beauty and joy about a scene by suggesting an appearance of an object rather than fully describing it.

Elena lives in Duvall, WA with her husband Vladimir and two German Shepherd dogs Roxy and Hexe.
